AM I WHERE I THOUGHT I'D BE?
The question comes slowly, almost out of nowhere. “Am I where I thought I would be by now?”
You think of all the dreams you had. Marriage. Family. Career. Travel. A perfect, joyful, and successful life.
But now those dreams feel faint and distant as you ponder: Did I think I’d be married by now? Or still be married?
Your mind shifts to the daily grind of work. The job that barely stirs your soul. Do I feel fulfilled?
Am I using my spiritual gifts, or are they collecting dust while I live a less-than-ordinary life?
These questions are the collision between "the American dream" lifestyle and your reality.
But God.
Life has never been about the boxes you check off or the titles you collect.
Life is about proximity.
The real question is not, “Am I where I thought I’d be?” but rather, “Am I where God is?”
It’s about your closeness to the one thing, the one person, who can truly satisfy your restless heart: God himself.
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)
"Fullness of joy." "Peasures forevermore". These cannot be found in the corner office, the trophy spouse, or the mansion in the street.
They can only be found in the presence of the almighty, all-satisfying God.
What makes any life worth living is to be in Christ and know God.
Solomon lived the high life, and he learned a valuable lesson from it:
“Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.” (Proverbs 30:8–9)
Real life will never look exactly like the one we dreamt of.
But in every twist and turn, we are offered God Himself.
And in His presence, there is fullness of joy.
Take a moment to surrender the expectations and pressures you’ve carried for so long.
True fulfillment begins not with what you accomplish but with WHO you walk beside.
